How to Build a Website

How to Build a WebsiteThis blog post is about the basic elements on how to build a website. Before you can even begin to build a website you must first have several things in place like the topic of your site and the keywords you want to target.

1.    It is always a good idea to do a little keyword research before you begin so you know how to write your website content for search engine optimization (SEO).

2.    You will want to purchase your domain at this stage so you make sure no one else pinches it while you complete the rest of your research. Your domain should be the main theme of your site.

3.    Once you have your keywords, decide how many pages you will want to make on your site and name each one with your main theme keyword rather than numbers for SEO.

4.    Once you have mapped out the various elements of your site you are ready to proceed to learn how to build a website using software or website builders.

How to Build a Website Software Options

5.    You are going to need to learn how to build a website using a website builder, html editor, content management system, website design software, or general public license software (GPL or GPU) which offers free and paid for web templates. For a full report on the pros and cons of each option see our blog post on make your own website here. If you want to get started right away today and have your site up and running within the next 24 hours we suggest you check out the Simple New System here.

6.    You’ll need a web host and a good web host at that. There’s no point paying for service that is down most of the time. We recommend and use Hostgator because it simply gives you the best value for dollar, technical queries and help arrives within 5 minutes usually and the staff is very helpful and friendly.  We love them. Packages start at around $8 a month for hosting of unlimited websites. Can’t beat that. If you don’t like Hostgator do a search for ‘web hosting service’ and review all the options.

7.    Depending on what website builder you use you will need an ftp (file transfer protocol) like Cute FTP to publish your site up to your web. If you’ve paid your $400 or so for Dreamweaver it comes with its own ftp system. Content management systems that most web hosts have these days come with their own ftp as well.

8.    You’ll need web graphics as well which can be purchased from graphic sites or you can pay from a graphic designer. You can get free graphics as well. Again do a search using the keywords ‘free web graphics’ or ‘royalty free web graphics’.

In this video we cover the very basic elements plust a reveiw of The Simple New Web System and what it offers for you to build a website.
